We are all painfully familiar with the phrase, "separation of church and state." That phrase
has become well-touted and yet seldom understood by many in society. A lack of
understanding, fear of negative feedback, and unawareness has caused many ministers to
simply back away from civic leadership and influence.
Pastor Scott Thomson, in his book "The Watchman's Call", brings a refreshing perspective to engagement in local politics. His practical step-by-step approach, couched in real-life experience, normalizes for the leaders the seemingly impossible marriage between politics and church leadership.

Doug LaMalfa US Congressman - California District One

Having served in both the California State Legislature and now in Congress, blending faith with public duty is often a challenge. Recently, I experienced a committee hearing where an atheist member demanded that a federal agency remove all Christian symbols—just one example of the increasing pressure to silence faith in the public square. Yet Scripture calls us to be salt and light, preserving what is good and illuminating the path forward. The Watchman’s Call provides a clear and timely blueprint for how the Church can stand in the gap, rebuild broken walls, and foster unity in a divided culture. I wholeheartedly endorse this book. Every pastor, leader, and believer should read it, share it, and live it. Sitting out the political scene because it feels unattractive only guarantees one-sided results. America’s future depends on a revived Church boldly engaging culture with grace, truth, and conviction.

The leaven of the Kingdom was never meant to stay in the pew, but work its way into school boards, sports teams, government offices, and more. If you are frustrated at what is happening in your city, perhaps the Lord is inviting you to do what Pastor Scott did—be salt and light—stop hell from having its way, and start bringing heaven to earth in the public square! The Watchman’s Call is not untested theories, but actual blueprints that have brought measurable reformation to his city! I know Scott and his family, I have preached in his church, and done two gospel crusades in his city. I have seen the transformation firsthand from his leadership and the unity amongst the churches that ushered in lasting impact that I have yet to witness elsewhere, yet! This book is not a suggestion, but a clear call to leaders that you can flip the lights on in any dark room with compassion and truth, so your city can receive, “beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3).

"The Watchman’s Call” is more than a book, it’s a prophetic trumpet blast calling the Church to awaken, engage, and stand in the gap for our communities and our nation. With authenticity, vulnerability, and bold conviction, Scott Thomson weaves together his personal journey, biblical truth, and practical insights to remind us that civic disengagement is not an option for the people of God.This compelling work is a timely blueprint for pastors, leaders, and believers who are ready to move beyond the walls of the church and take their place as salt and light in the public square. Scott’s voice is courageous, compassionate, and deeply grounded in Scripture. His life models what he writes, a faithful pastor and public servant who has chosen obedience over comfort, conviction over compromise. In a time when the Church’s presence in culture is desperately needed, The Watchman’s Call sounds the alarm and casts a vision for what is possible when God's people rise to their civic calling. Every pastor, policymaker, and prayer warrior needs to read this book—and respond.
